Hey everybody, thanks for joining the Black Five Podcast. I'm your host, Scott Livingstone. Let's get right to this recap. Aggies took the series against Vandy two games to one, which, as we said, it's always good to win an SEC series, that's for sure. So game one on Thursday, the Commodores took the win 14-8. There were five home runs by each team, and Vandy had three by their DH. Barksy, I think is how you say his name. For the Aggs, Sorrell had two, Bear had two, and Jorian Wilson added one himself. Aggies had eight hits, five were home runs. Sorrell, Wilson, and Harrison multi-hit games with Grahovac and Dewar grabbing the other two. Shane Sedeo was on the bump and finished with five innings pitched. Eight hits, eight runs. Only four were earned, three walks and ten Ks. Gavin Lions came on and unfortunately did not record an out, giving up four hits, three runs. All earned, no walks and no K's. So uncharacteristic of uh Gavin, uh, that's for sure. Uh Aggs went through seven pitchers in game one. Game two and three turned into a doubleheader due to the impending rain that was expected that Saturday. Game one of the DH saw the Aggs went eight to four. Aggies mustered only five hits but drew 14 walks. Yes, 14. Gavin Grahovac had two of the five, one being an opposite field right center home run. Nico Partita, he homered in the first, driving in two, putting the Aggs up three to nothing at the time. Vandy had three home runs of their own, uh 10 hits, but all were solos. Uh shows you how walks can really hurt you right there. Aggie's allowed only three walks. With the home runs, the walks, some errors by both teams, the game stayed close until the fifth at uh five to four, but then Gavin Grahovac's opposite field home run in the sixth, and Bear Harrison's single in the seventh that played a Jorian, whom had uh reached on the fielder's choice, making it seven to four. Some nicely executed base running by Sorrell added the eighth run by the way of uh steal at home. Pretty cool, pretty exciting. Weston Moss started on the bump and went four and a third, six hits, three runs, one walk, four K's. I mean, he he showed some flashes of the old moss that we know, and Lions came on and he turned it around from the day before. Uh he went three and two thirds, three hits, one run, one walk. Pretty good outing. And uh it was important in those middle innings to hold those guys down. And then Freshcorn came on in the ninth to finish it out, and Lions ended up grabbing the win on game two. Game three went how I thought it might, kind of typical for the Aggs, right? I knew Vandy was low on starting pitching, uh which happens for I mean it's depth. It's all we talk about is depth in the bullpen. It's so key to these series. And, you know, our luxury is Aiden Sims. I've said it before, he could be a Friday or Saturday starter on a lot of other teams in SEC. So with our offense that can slug with anybody, I figure we had a great chance. And I was proven correct with a 12-0, seven inning run roll win. Home runs were on the menu for the Aggs with a Kopian hitting a bomb. Partita, Benderup, and Harrison with one each. Uh Kopian also added a double, giving him three RBIs on the day. Sorrell and Wilson added uh doubles themselves, with Jorian also adding a triple, which I consider the most exciting play in baseball. RBI totals were Sorel had two, Akopian had three, Partita two, Bender up three, and Harrison two. But what about that Aiden Sims, my man? Complete game shutout, seven innings pitched, three hits, no runs, two walks, eight K's on 117 pitches. Pretty spectacular, pretty dominant performance against a Vandy team that, you know, it was scrappy. I mean, there's no quitting Vandy, so they're they're gonna be tough, they're gonna play hard. So it was a it was a big, big outing, big performance for Aiden. And uh, I mean, they already had nine home runs in the first two games. So great job by the Axe to sweep the doubleheader and get uh two much needed wins. Okay, let's take a look at the much anticipated weekend against the TU Longhorns. They are 26-5 overall, nine and three in the SEC. And I'm only gonna look at conference for comparisons because that's kind of when the real stuff stuff gets real. Uh, they took two of three from Ole Miss, two of three from Auburn, they swept OU, and they also took two of three from South Carolina. I kind of, I mean, I feel like it's their pitching is what carries them. Um, you know, we've got great slug. That kind of carries us, we're playing great defense. So they got some good arms. They're pretty loaded in the bullpen, especially. And their starting pitchers, uh, Ruger Riojas, time won't say it. He's one and one with a 4-3-5. Opponents are hitting 298 against him. Uh, he struck out 26 and walked six. Luke Harrison is 3-0 with a 2.49. Opponents are hitting 174 against him, so he must be a pretty good one. And 25K's and 8 walks. Uh, the SEC freshman of the year, which was Texas's closer last year, Dylan Valantis, is also starting. He's 2-0 this year with a 2.53. Opponents are hitting 226 against him and 28Ks to eight walks. So pretty good, but we kind of know how coach Max Wiener is about fill up the zone and not a lot of walks. And and uh we know that other coach over there, he doesn't like walks. Um, it looks like Sam Kozart is their closer. He's got three saves in the conference, which that's not too bad. And uh he's got 18 K's in two walks in 11 and two thirds. And so they, I mean, it's definitely some power arms in the bullpen, so they're gonna come out firing some bullets, and uh, but it won't be anything we can't handle. Uh the hitters, they're hitting 277 as a team. They have 17 home runs in conference, and compare that's 20. We have 27. Um Ashton Larson is hitting 429 for them. Transfer from LSU. Uh freshman Anthony Pack, 364. Carson Tenney, another transfer from Notre Dame, sitting 347. And they got two guys sitting at 300, Casey Borba and looks like Aiden Robbins, another transfer from Seaton Hall. They don't run a whole lot, but uh that Anthony Park freshman is uh leading the team with five out of five, I believe that's in conference. So don't run a whole lot. Uh I think they kind of rely on their pitching and then push some runs across uh when they can throughout the innings. And just in case you notice, if anybody looked at the statistics at Texas, they have a hitter there named, I think his first name's Josh, but his last name's Livingstone. Livingston. He doesn't have the E on it like I do, so don't get confused. There's no relation. And I mean, there's really no relation. He's hitting 167. Come on now. Kidding so obviously a much anticipated series, mainly by the fans and the media outlets. Uh, but I can guarantee you the I mean the guys in that locker room, they aren't thinking about revenge. A lot of them weren't even here. So it's business as usual. Play their game, execute in all three phases. Uh, some things you can count on. It's gonna be electric at Bluebell. We know that. It's gonna be nuts. 203 is gonna be crazy. They're gonna pull out all the stops. Packed house all around the outfield, everywhere, and expensive tickets if you don't have one yet.
