Hey everybody, thanks for joining the Ball of Five Podcast recap of the Aggie Auburn series this past weekend. I'm your host, Scott Livingstone, so let's jump right into it. Alright, Auburn came in with an RP RPI of six to AM's five. And I mean you can't get any closer than that. And due to some rain on Friday, uh Saturday was a double header. So game one, Shane Sedeo, he was on the bump, had a rough outing. I mean, not a whole lot I could say about this game. Aggies lost 18 to 5. Shane went one inning, four hits, gave up six runs. Uh Grant Cunningham came in, threw three innings, gave up five. Luke Billings threw a third of an inning and four runs. Cole Hubert threw an inning and it was three runs. Cooper Powell, he came in and did the best, one point uh one and two thirds with no runs. So pretty good outing by him, but you know, it's just one of those days, man. It's just it happens. You know, guys throw the ball, they hit it out of the ballpark, they they make good contact. I mean, it just happens. I mean, I mean, they had 19 hits. The Aggs, we had six hits. Grahovac had two hits, and both of them were home runs. Akopian uh had a hit, Bear had a hit, and so did Farr. And Jorian Wilson added a home run as well. So that was pretty much our offense. I mean, their pitcher, I mean, he went seven innings. Six hits, 11 K's. He had no walks through the complete game, seven innings, 114 pitches. He didn't walk anybody, he didn't hit any batters. I mean, Andreas Alvarez, I mean, he was he was cruising. He was dealing. So once they jumped out to that big lead, I mean, that that guy just he was dominant on the mound. I mean, it's all you can say. Tip your hat to him. Congratulations. Game two, Auburn end up, he's squeaking it out five to four. Uh they jumped on us 5-0 through the top of the third. And Sims got the start for us. He was five innings, uh, five runs on seven hits. And, you know, he got hit around a little bit, what we're kind of not used to seeing, but you know, Auburn was hot that day. I mean, that was they were on fire at the plate. They were swinging the bats and taking pitches and swinging at strikes. You know, that's what they did. Um Gavin Lyons, he entered and held down the Auburn bats, man, giving the Aggs a chance to come back. He went four innings with two hits and no runs. So he held their offense in check and gave us a chance. Sorell hit his 44th career home run for one of the runs, and then Travis Chestnut in for at second base for a copian who has a bad knee coming back from that. Uh he tripled to score two to make it five to three. And then a double by Bear plated uh a copian who had walked. And that was pretty much the score was five to four. So we only had six hits again. Sorrell had two of them, Bear had two, uh, Jorian had one, and Chestnut had one with his triple. Excuse me. I mean, their pitching did well also in that game. I mean, the guy went six innings, three, uh they went six innings and three innings, respectively, and uh they totaled another 11 K's. And, you know, we only had two walks. Uh nine hits, but they had nine hits, but three of them were home runs. So, I mean, we struck out again. Their pitching just did the job. I mean, it was that that day was that was their day. So it was a rough start. Um, down 0-2 in the series. We just have to, you know, do what they say, flush it, and move on. So game three saw Weston Moss uh on the bump, and Aggs won four to three. Weston was Weston. He was on fire this game, man. Six and a third, one hit, one run, one earn run, six K's in 76 pitches. I mean, he did the job, man. He was that's the Weston that we know. And I mean, he was mixing his breaking stuff in, and I've told you before, fastballs and changeups, man, you can win with those two pitches. And he had them going. And then he also has curveball. So he had everything working. So it was good to see that. Uh Darton threw a third of an inning, and Freshcorn came in for two and a third. Uh, he gave up five hits and two runs, but you know, he worked a little longer than usual, and uh, but he was fresh because he didn't throw the first two games, so he's ready to go. And, you know, our hitting and our defense, you know, their pitchers, they were they were tough. I mean, like I said, the defense had some lapses, you know, but also made some really, really good plays. I mean, there were some crucial double plays turned, and you know, I gotta, you know, tip my hat to Grahovac, man. Once uh uh Nico did the splits over there. I hope I hope he's all right. Grahovac just put down his first baseman's mitt, grabbed his third baseman's mitt, and said, All right, let's go play. And I can tell you, man, he didn't get many easy hops. I'm a former third baseman, and I watched those plays, and just moving over there and playing the way he did, that was elite, man. That was really elite play by him, and what a luxury to be able to have a leader like that to just go across the field. It was awesome. And of course, there's Super Sorrell out there doing his thing in the outfield, diving all over the place. So uh, you know, the game was moving along pretty good. It's kind of funny. We were actually in the car coming back on Sunday, so we were kind of listening and watching on the iPad or whatever, and we're like, okay, we got about a three-hour ride home, so it should be pretty good to listen to the game. And it was just cruising. So I was thinking at the end, golly, we may have another hour and a half to burn. What are we gonna listen to? Because with both pitchers doing that and shutting down the offenses, I mean, game moves pretty quick. So uh Hakopian, he you know, he had a bad knee and all. He provided all the RBIs needed with an RBI ground out after Gavin had stole third, sweet play there, and then he launched a three-run bomb to left field in the sixth. Tigers made it close with go-ahead runs. Um, but a smooth double play, man, by chestnut and counter ended it to make it four to three. The Aggs uh pull off and salvage the win. And we really needed it. So so you know, onward and upward, here we go. We got to head to Ole Miss, go to Oxford. Well, prairie views first on Tuesday. Um Ole Miss is sitting right now at 13th in the RPI, 32-17 overall, 12-12 in the conference, but their strength of schedule is four. So they're playing some tough teams. And the AGS right now is 24, and that'll probably go down after we played uh Ole Miss in Mississippi State. Ole Miss at home is 24 and 6. And I do have to say, you know, my wife being the big buckeye and you know, the fan of that and everything, they did scunt Ohio State 8-0, just saying. I had to throw that in there. They lost uh two of three to Texas, they won two of three over Kentucky, got swept by their nemesis man, Mississippi State, and they won two of three from Florida. They swept LSU just like we did. They beat Southern Miss, who right now has an RPI of 11. And so they're, I mean, they're kind of on that borderline of like, are they gonna get the host? Are they not? They're probably gonna host a regional, but maybe not a super if they get that far. They won two of three at Tennessee against Tennessee, lost two of three to Georgia, and then lost two of three to Arkansas. The last one, I think, they lost on a two-run home run. It's pretty uh pretty good game there with Arkansas at the end. They're hitting 245 as a team in conference. They got 40 home runs, and three guys are over 300 in conference. Now, these are all conference numbers, so they're pitching. They have an ERA of 5.27. Opponents are hitting 261 against them. And the starters are, they got Hunter Elliott. I think he was there last year. I mean, he's got a pretty good arm. He's, you know, he's they're probably gonna go as far as their pitching goes, but they're not gonna have, they don't have Auburn arms at all. They don't have those starting guys, but you know, these guys are good pitchers. So, but he only lasted three innings in his last start against Arkansas, and they actually got run-ruled. Uh Cade Townsend, he threw five and two-thirds, gave up two runs and a win, but they won 11 to 4. And Taylor Rabe, I guess, five innings pitched, two runs. He struck out seven, and they lost late with uh reliever uh who gave up a walk-off two-run home run. So, I mean, it's it's the SEC, right? Anything can happen. You can't take anybody lightly. I don't even care, you know, even if it's Missouri, they're still gonna play some, you know, they're gonna, they're ball players too. They get paid to play too, right? They get in out NIL money. That's you know, they get the portal, so they everybody's got a chance, right? So that's just the way it is in the SEC. So, uh, but you know, we got everything right in front of us. If we can just take care of business, we got a really, really good chance to host and uh all the way through until Omaha. So that would be really sweet because we know how the AGs play at Bluebell Park and love those, love that 12th man. All right, folks, that's it.
